e. Synergistic Activities

  1. Designed and piloted the on site, team taught courses where College of Science and College of Education faculty team-teach in schools 1998-present
  2. Director of Texas Pre-freshman Engineering Program (TexPREP) 1997-present
  3. TexPREP is an accelerated mathematics and science program that lasts eight weeks during the summer at UTEP. Last year 300 middle and high school students participated. The state department of education accredits the program and students receive elective credit. 1996-present
  4. Associate Director of Partners for Excellence in Teacher Education (PETE). This program has formed a partnership between Colleges of Science and Education and the El Paso Community College. The program works to improve teaching in the College of Science and content acquisition in the College of Education. 1997-present
  5. Eisenhower Trainer for local program. I have secured Eisenhower funds to train local teachers in mathematics and science education. These teachers go directly from university classes into classrooms to work with mathematics and science middle and high school students. 1995-present
